Snowshoe Hike On The Shamans Footsteps

Experience the northern winter night with our snowshoe hike to the former holy fell of Sami's called Pyhävaara. This tour leads you through the snowy forest trail to the top of the fell, where you can enjoy the feeling of the northern nature. If the weather conditions are right at night, the dancing northern lights and the clear star sky will light up our way to the top. You will hear facts about the northern nature and its wildlife. On the top we’ll enjoy coffee or tea and a sweet bun.

Searching For Elves Track – Snowshoe Tour With Lanterns  

A snowshoe hike over the frozen lake to the snowy peninsula. We will take a tour and get to know the trails of wildlife and signs about the Santa's little helpers, the elves. This tour is suitable also for our older elves interested in the nature. Starting point is Sokos Hotel Kuusamo.

Snowshoe Hike To The Säväkkä Fjell & Visiting Husky Farm

We will have a transfer to the west side of the Säväkkä fell, from where our snowshoe adventure starts. We hike with the snowshoes up to the beautiful snowy top of the Säväkkä fell and continue down to the other side of the Fell, where a husky farm is situated. The Husky farmer will welcome us and will lead us around the farm and you'll get to know how the daily life on a husky farm looks like and have a ride with these northern dogs. Enjoy the walk through the silent forest where the trees are covered with snow looking like snow sculptures and at the roof of Kuusamo town you will have a breathtaking view over the frozen lakes and silent forests miles away.

Army Forest Skiing - Conquest Of The Winter Paradise

Discover the nature of Kuusamo with legendary army forest skis. Join our skiing trip on a great lake. Get to know how the trappers, hunters, soldiers, timber jacks etc. used to go around in previous days and in some cases also nowadays in wild Finnish nature. Try a piece of Finnish history on your feet. After a short skiing we reach a beautiful little island where we will enjoy the coffee and snack by open fire.

Fisherman’s Tour ala Kuusamo or Ruka With Snowshoes 

First a short walk to the lake close to Kuusamo-town. We will go with snowshoes to the ice fishing place. Your guide will explain and show the winter net fishing techniques and after that you can try ice fishing with the jig. We will have a hot juice break on the lake. Your professional ski guide will show you the basics of cross-country skiing. Husky Tours

Monday & Friday Husky Special

10 km husky ride (2 persons per sledge), transfer to husky farm and back to your hotel in Kuusamo centrum and a snack by open fire with warm drink

Price: 90 €/adult , 45 €/child 4-12 years

Meet the guide at the hotel at 10:00 a.m. Transfer by car to the Husky farm with over 200 sledge dogs. First we have a riding lesson (15 min) to learn how to handle the dog sledge. Then it is time for 10 km husky tour. You ride with 2 persons per team; one person standing on the runners as a rider and the other one is sitting on the sledge as a passenger. It takes about 50 kg bodyweight to handle the husky-team of 6 dogs. Children are sitting on the sledge. After the riding tour we will come back to the farm and you'll have a possibility to meet more dogs and take some photos. Then we will have warm drinks and little snack by open fire and talk more about these amazing dogs. You can also meet our reindeer.

Total duration of the program is about 3 hours.

Husky Safaris

Meet the huskies and take a ride with these arctic animals!

You can ride alone or take your friend with you. Experience the wild nature with the sledge dogs. Imagine the beautiful, snowy forest around you. You work together with the kind and strong huskies. It is so silent that all you can hear is your sledge runners running on the snow. First we tell you about the sledge dogs and we will show you how to ride a husky-team. Then we are ready to start a safari of your dreams. Normally there are two persons per sledge. After the safari we enjoy a cup of coffee around a campfire in our Lappish Kota.

Reindeer Sledge Ride and Visit To The Reindeer Farm

Get to know the life of reindeer and their habits and have a memorable reindeer sledge ride (5 km or 1,5 km). After a ride we will enjoy a cup of coffee/tea with a local sweet bun. Under The Stars

As the night sets in, begin an Arctic journey under the rising moon and watch the stars slowly appear. Ride through dark, snow-covered areas illuminated only by the headlight of your snowmobile. In The Heart Of Nature

Enjoy the great outdoors on this safari to the heart of nature. The trail traverses rugged fells and narrow valleys before coming to the first stop, where we serve a typical Lappish lunch prepared over a campfire. After a refreshing cup of strong hot coffee, you’ll continue onwards through the forest. Keep your eyes out for forest animals searching for food!

Legend Of The Four Winds

Your trail will take you over frozen waters and through snow-covered forests to a reindeer farm. Sit around an open fire with a herdsman and learn about the North’s oldest form of livelihood, the daily routines of reindeer herdsmen and hear the Story of the Four Wind Hat. Ride in a sleigh pulled by reindeer and receive your own reindeer driving license before returning to town.

Arctic Speed

Snowmobiling & huskies! Ride along a trail traversing snow-covered landscape. Visit a husky camp and learn about the daily life and training of these friendly Arctic dogs. Take a ride in the sled pulled by a husky team and enjoy a cup of hot berry juice around a camp fire.

Santa Claus program

Saturday Special: Fun Day with Santa & Mrs. Claus

Pick up from Hotels Rukahovi, Sokos and Tropiikki. Transfer to Vuotunki village (30 mins one way), which is located in Eastern Kuusamo, very close to the Russian border. Once you arrive, you are very warmly welcomed to the cottage by one of Santa's helpers. Before meeting Santa we enjoy tobogganing and grilling sausages by open fire. Please remember to dress up warmly! Santa and Mrs. Claus then invite their guests into their cottage, where Santa nominates all children as his helpers. Inside the country side house children will help Mrs. Claus to bake ginger bread cookies and sweet buns, make Christmas cards and do some other Christmas chores. Cookies and homemade berry juice are served. A small post office opens up its doors so that the self made greeting cards can be sent to loved ones back home. There is plenty of time to chat with Santa and take pictures. And of course Santa has a small present for each child.

Children of all ages are welcome but children below 6 years are accepted only when accompanied by an adult family member.

Multi Activity Day 1

Multi Activity Day 2

Visiting A Reindeer Farm, Snowshoeing, Reindeer Sledge Ride, Ice Fishing, Forest Skiing, Tobogganing And Sausage Grilling

First we visit a Reindeer farm. Afterwards we’ll hike through a beautiful snow covered spruce forest and reach a big frozen lake where we will check the fishing net and hope for a catch. After a while the reindeer farmer comes with his reindeer and the sledges and we’ll enjoy a ride to an island in the middle of the lake. On the island we’ll enjoy sausage grilling, fresh cooked coffee and hot juice by open fire, fun with tobogganing sledges, ice hole fishing with jigs and a ski around the island with traditional forest skis. Then a short hike with snowshoes/forest skis to the pickup place and transfer back. For this program you have to book at least two days before.

Wilderness Camp With Overnight In An Igloo Or Snow Shelter With Outdoor Cooking And Tent Sauna On The Lake

We will show you the basic wilderness skills and techniques (orienteering with map and compass, making fire etc.) and tell you interesting and educational things about the nature. This program includes an overnight on a reindeer skin in an igloo or snow shelter and outdoor cooking (planked salmon and other outdoor delicious) on an island in the middle of a beautiful lake. There is also a small fisherman’s cottage to warm up by cold weather. Your guide will show you how to prepare fish, pancakes or bread by open fire in traditional Finnish way. In the evening you can enjoy the tent sauna on the lake and if you want you can also try ice swimming. This program is done by an international Wilderness Guide. Come and have a taste of outdoor life. This is not typical luxury; this is real outdoor luxury on the wild way!
